Early in 2021 we began a rolling project to install new UPS’s (uninterruptible power supplies) and an IPS (isolated power supply) units along with EBB’s (equipotential bonding bars) as part of the Group 2 improvement plan to 24 theatre units and 6 recovery areas at the University Hospital Bristol NHS Trust.
Our team was responsible for both preparing the program of works and managing the complete installations within these busy theatres and the project required an extremely flexible approach to working hours to fit around hospital appointment lists. We also made sure we carried out as much pre-installation work as possible to help limit theatre closures.
During the project we discovered that several theatre units actually required some alteration to their lighting systems to achieve compliant light levels. To address this we designed bespoke theatre lighting systems that could be installed within the existing apertures and connected these to new DALI lighting control systems with dimmable LEDs. This work was also carried out in conjunction with the main project to minimise theatre shutdowns.
